About Our Rabbi
GLT is currently searching for a full time interim rabbi to provide spriritual leadership until we hire a permanent full time replacement. While we search for our full time interim rabbi, the ritual committee, lay leaders of the congregation and in the community as well as Rabbi Albert
Slomovitz, our Founding Rabbi, will handle the spiritual and ritual aspects of the operation of the congregation including Shabbat services, B'nai Mitzvahs, life-cycle events and simchas, and religious school and pre-school duties.

Rabbi Albert Slomovitz is a former Navy Chaplain, and author of the book "Fighting Rabbis." His scope of religious service in our armed forces is simply extraordinary. During his military career, Captain Slomovitz was awarded three Meritorious Service Medals and two Navy Commendation and Achievement Medals, as well as the distinguished "Chaplain of the Year, by the Reserve Officer Association of America.
He has been based across America and in Okinawa, Japan. During his twenty years serving our country, he has conducted religious services to soldiers stationed thousands of miles from home. He has prayed with those, not only, of the Jewish faith, but of all faiths, even from the back of a jeep.
Despite his tenure as a military officer, and the title of his book, ("Fighting" Rabbis), Rabbi Slomovitz is a soft-spoken, well-educated, genuine person who's connection to Judaism is inspirational. He speaks to you as a teacher, filling in the blanks about Conservative customs, from long ago, and how to deal with new challenges in our ever-changing world. He is approachable and listens intently to your questions, or concerns with genuine interest, adding natural warmth not necessarily present in other congregations.
Once you step into Gesher L'Torah, you'll step into a community that cares about you, your family and your Jewish needs, with a leader at the helm, who'll help you find your way.
Rabbi Slomovitz was educated at the Judaic-Hebrew Union College-Institute of Religion where he was also ordained as a Rabbi, received a Masters in Interfaith Relationships, and a Ph.D. in American/Ethnic History at Loyola University, and a D.D. awarded by the Hebrew Union College, Jewish Institute of Religion.
Rabbi Slomovitz was Gesher L’Torah’s first Rabbi and has been a spiritual leader within GLT since late 1990's. He and his wife Gail have four children, Rachel, Aaron, Leah, and Ilana, and reside in Marietta, Georgia.
